Charging from your own generation
An EV charger draws a lot of current, so the install needs checking against your existing supply rather than just fitting a unit to the wall. We'll look at your main fuse rating, consumer unit capacity and earthing arrangement before quoting.
If you already have solar, or you're considering it, a charger can be set up to prioritise your own generation over grid electricity. Worth planning both together if you're doing them in the same year.
We'll always survey a property before quoting rather than pricing blind, and you'll get a written quote before any work starts. If solar isn't going to work well on your roof, we'd rather tell you than sell you a system that underperforms.

Questions we're often asked
Can I charge my car using solar power?
Yes. If you have solar generation - ideally with battery storage - an EV charger can be set up to prioritise your own generation over grid electricity where possible, so you're charging from what you've already generated rather than buying it back.
How long does an EV charger installation take?
Most home installs are completed in a day, following a supply assessment to check your main fuse rating and consumer unit can handle the extra load.
Do I need planning permission for a home EV charger?
Generally no for a standard wall-mounted domestic unit. Listed buildings and some conservation areas can carry extra restrictions, so it's worth flagging if that applies to your property - we'll tell you if it's likely to be an issue.
What's the difference between a 7kW and a 22kW charger?
Most UK homes run on a single-phase electricity supply, which limits charging to around 7kW. A 22kW charger needs a three-phase supply, which is uncommon in domestic properties and more typical for commercial premises.
